I've been here at Nexus/H for a year or so. It's a great agency.
I've been working across a varied range of clients from Suzuki cars, Suzuki bikes, Cunard, Hitachi to Callaway. I've been doing a lot of brand work, a lot of campaign work and I've also been looking a lot at how these brands can have true through the line communications from print to OOH, TV to online (incl. Social Media.)
There are some exciting times ahead for those brands up there, so keep your eyes peeled.
I've also been working hard on lots of new business, plugging away at some slow burners and converting some opportunities. Again, keep your eyes peeled in the industry rags for them - some of them are really interesting.
In between all that I've built a Planning department that is helping to add value to everything the agency does. My style of Planning is simple. Well, that's it really... it's about simplicity. Distill the problem, and look at the best way of addressing the problem within the constraints. As Nexus/H are a full service agency (with a Media department too) it's been great to approach problems from a media-neutral perspective and to deal with a problem in the right way: 1) Problem; 2) Suitable media. Internally it's about helping the account teams deal with briefs and then helping inspire the creatives. Never doing either of their jobs for them, but helping them do theirs.
My ugly mug has unfortunately also been on the front of The Drum to celebrate the agency being awarded first place in the Recommended Agency Register - an award scheme for all non-London agencies. (This was something that was done without my knowledge, so don't blame me if it put you off your cuppa and chocolate Hobnob.)
I've worked with some cool people, learned a lot, worked with some great clients and made some good friends.
But, as Ray Liotta says... "Now it's all over..."
That's because in a few weeks I'm joining Frukt.
I've been flattered recently, and had several agencies ringing me up for a chat. They've ranged from top 5 ATL UK agencies to agencies abroad. Frukt really stood apart from these as the right agency for me.
I'm really excited by the opportunity and (without giving anything away) there are certainly exciting times ahead for the agency. I'm glad I'm going to be part of that, and I'm chomping at the bit to get going. It's a great role with some really sharp people and I'm looking forward to learning lots from them and learning lots about new clients, new consumers and things I don't even know yet. (I sound a bit like Rumsfeld there...)
I've been in Tunbridge Wells for a year, and it's a beautiful place. I'm in London regularly, but not as often as I'd like so getting back to London is one of the things I'm looking forward to. I'm looking forward to getting back amongst things and meeting up with a lot more people, a lot more regularly. I love having coffees with people, having a chat and sharing ideas and it's something I've missed over the past year. So, if you're organising breakfasts, lunches, drinks and chats - make sure I'm invited. (If you want me to be, obviously...)
I can honestly say I wish everyone at Nexus/H every success in the future - they're a top bunch. I can honestly also say I can't wait to get started in my new adventure.
Bring it on.
