Day 15 of Advent Avatar and it's starting to feel a little more like Christmas.
I'm off to Boston for Christmas this year. (Fingers crossed on the weather and other associated things I always worry about a week before a flight). I'm going there to try and write, so I'm slowly trying to change my mentality from Planner to Writer. (Obviously I need to be Planner while still at work).
The two aren't massively dissimilar (I've a post on that coming up) but it's a bit of a mindset shift.
At the moment I wake up and I become Planner very quickly: I check my Twitter for interesting stuff; look at the news; think about the work I'm due to think about that day; which consumers I need to think like that day.
Being a Writer is a bit different, but I'll leave that for the other post.
So when I travel I like to meander. I don't really target places to visit - I kinda like bumping into them. There's a post over here about getting the clip of a place - and that describes how I do it. One thing I do like to do is take my running kit on a trip and go running the first morning. It's a great way to see a city and get a feeling quickly. I've ran in some nice places over the past couple of years.
So this is my Advent Avatar:
I like to get the Rough Guide/ Time Out/ Lonely Planet when I go somewhere. If only to get me a bit excited - I don't really use it as a tour guide. So this is me on the bus this morning - the number 243 - on the way to work. Looking for the Dive Bars and nice coffee shops. Exciting.
On the fifteenth day of Christmas my truelove gave to me:
A tiny bit of research;
A new piece of software;
An amazing phone number;
A misunderstanding of Boring;
A presentation at Boring;
A shitty new manager;
A new butcher's apron;
An arty exhibition;
A chat with a novelist;
A hilarious wind-up;
A very big burrito;
A stubby of Pale Ale;
A very well deserved hangover;
A Newcastle United scarf;
Skinny hazelnut latte.
